Círculo de Empresarios is a think tank that has been at the service of Spanish society since it was created in 1977. Its main goals are the promotion of the free market and free enterprise, the recognition of the entrepreneur as a creator of employment, wealth and general wellbeing, and the promotion of the entrepreneurial spirit. El Círculo communicates its proposals through events, public discussions, media presence, documents, position papers, etc. It also carries out joint Cooperation Programs with the Spanish Parliament, judiciary power, universities and some other public and private institutions.
El Círculo may also be defined as a Collective Project for Business Responsibility. It operates completely independently as its sole financial support derives from the membership fees of more than 200 senior owners and executives from the principal Spanish and multinational companies that operate in the country.
El Círculo generates proposals and share ideas through its members, whom actively participate in a wide number of working groups. This activity is based on three principles: growth or the need to increase the size of the average Spanish company; the improvement of the quality of our public institutions and to promote a responsible and ethical behaviour in the corporate world.
El Círculo’s drive is a desire to contribute to the collective improvement of Spanish society. Although its analysis of the current state of affairs comes from a business perspective, the idea of the common good is firmly in mind.
El Círculo’s motto is “Ideas to grow” as growth provides the answers to the challenges facing us all. We have to grow to create employment and wealth, to further reduce the deficit and debt that hinders development, and to consolidate the Welfare State that has been constructed through the efforts of all Spaniards. In order to grow in a globalised market, it is essential to improve competitiveness. And as a result, there is an urgent need to intensify structural reforms.
We aim to establish an institutional framework of the highest quality which will offer the kind of security and stability attractive to investors. We also seek for growth that doesn’t generate inequality but rather overcomes it. We want to create equal opportunities through education, and this has to be our primary shared objective. And for growth to be sustainable, it should be based on transparency, fight against corruption and ethics-and-values based actions.
