Tom Burns Marañón, London 1948, is an Anglo-Spanish political analyst and a director of Madrid consultancy Eurocofín. Tom was for many years a Financial Times Spain correspondent and previously reported for Newsweek and The Washington Post. He was posted to Madrid by Reuters after to cover Franco’s death and Spain’s Transition to Democracy. Tom read Modern History at Oxford and is the author of several books on contemporary several Spanish politics. He has been a trustee of several Spanish cultural and academic institutions, including the José Ortega y Gasset-Gregorio Marañón foundation, and writes twice weekly columns for Expansión, Spain’s leading business newspaper.
